Karen Tang Andersen, Mezzo-soprano In Recital


Karen Tang Andersen, mezzo-soprano and Douglas Ashcraft, pianist perform in recital on Friday, January 16 at 7:30 in Stephens Recital Hall on the campus of Idyllwild Arts. They will perform works by Schumann, Poulenc, Mahler and Sibelius.

Karen Tang Andersen, Danish Mezzo-Soprano, received her vocal training at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, and at The Manhattan School of Music, New York, where she received her Masters in Voice in 1996. Ms. Andersen has since the beginning of her career been active in both concerts and opera performances, recently as Tisbe in "La Cenerentola" at the OK Mozart Festival. Her operatic repertoire includes among others Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus," Charlotte in "La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein" and Venus in "Orphee aux enfers." Ms. Andersen is also the Executive Director of The French Opera Comique of Denmark, which she co-founded in 2000. Under her leadership the opera has presented two productions in collaboration with Tivoli Concert Hall and under the protection of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark.

Pianist Douglas Ashcraft has performed to acclaim in recitals and concerts throughout the United States and in Europe. In addition to his solo work he is an active chamber musician and has performed in recitals at Carnegie Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, and Jacqueline Du Pre Hall at Oxford University in England. In 2001, he was featured in recital at the famed OKMozart festival and returned to the festival this past summer in a concerto performance with the Solisti New York Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Ransom Wilson. Douglas Ashcraft is currently a member of the artist faculty at Idyllwild Arts Academy
