Idyllwild Arts Academy Announces

Amrita Khalid Wins “Gold Award” in “The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2004”


(April 13, 2004) Amrita Khalid of Canton, Texas and a creative writing major at Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California, has been awarded a Gold Award by The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2004 in Poetry for her poem “The Paternal Pattern; The Great Comedy and Tragedy of Being Stupid.” She is the daughter of Dr. Shafi Khalid and Dr. Pariza Rahman of Canton. Amrita is a 9th grader and a student of Donald Put, chair of Creative Writing, at Idyllwild Arts Academy.

From an initial 50,000 entries that were narrowed to 5,000, the writing awards go to only 15 general writing portfolios, 5 nonfiction portfolios and 30 individual manuscripts. A panel of distinguished artists, writers, arts professionals and educators judged Amrita’s work.

As a Gold Award winner Amrita earns a Gold medal, a certificate, a place on the national winners list and publishing opportunities.
