Financial Aid Program for Native American Students
The Idyllwild Arts Academy, currently in its eighteenth year, is dedicated to developing and teaching the young artists of tomorrow. The philosophy of the Academy is to develop artist scholars – allowing students who have a passion for painting, dance, theatre, film, music, writing, or all of these combined, to study them intensely but still complete their high school diploma. Graduates from Idyllwild Arts Academy have gone on to perform in major orchestras, professional dance troupes, Broadway touring companies and numerous films and television shows. The 2004/2005 XYZ Financial Aid for the Idyllwild Arts Academy is provided for two students of high school age with current tribal affiliation and who would like to study in one of the seven arts majors – Creative Writing, Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts, Music, Moving Pictures, and Interdisciplinary Arts. The Idyllwild Arts Academy offers pre-professional training in the arts and a strong academic program. Students applying for the Academy should complete an application of admission which is available online at www.idyllwildarts.org, contacting admission@idyllwildarts.org or by calling the Admission office at (951) 659 2171 x. 343. The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program enters its 55th season of teaching the arts to children, teenagers and adults with programs in painting, poetry, music, dance, theatre, Native American arts and a host of other disciplines. Teachers such as legendary photographer Ansel Adams, the grand dame of Los Angeles modern dance Bella Lewitzky and legendary Acoma Pueblo potter Lucy Lewis are part of the distinguished faculty who built the Summer Program. The dedication of similar teachers continues today with Arizona Indian Living Treasure’s Michael Kabotie, and Lawrence and Griselda Saufkie, Los Angeles Master Chorale conductor Grant Gershon, and contemporary painters Elizabeth Murray and Terry Winters. The 2004 XYZ Scholarship for the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program is designed for students ages 9 – 12, with current tribal affiliation, and low income ($30,000 or under), living in California. The expenses covered include tuition, lab fee, registration fee, housing in the dorm, and all meals in the campus’ dining hall. Students are responsible for their transportation to and from Idyllwild or the Ontario Airport (and we will provide transportation from the airport to Idyllwild). We are located between Palm Springs and Riverside, California. Students should apply as soon as possible to ensure that there is space in the workshops they select. Also, the funds will be available until they are awarded to students with a demonstrated need. This 2004 Hopi Scholarship Fund is designed for Hopi students, ages 13 – 18, to attend the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. The program includes workshops in the visual and performing arts. The expenses covered include tuition, lab fees, registration fees, housing in the dorms, and meals in the campus’ dining hall, for 9 students. (Fewer students if they choose to stay four-six weeks for additional workshops.) Students should apply as soon as possible to ensure that there is space in the workshops they choose. Students may apply at any date, but may find that the workshops they wish to attend are already full or that all funds have been awarded. For a list of the workshops available, along with
the age requirements for each workshop please request a catalog or visit
