Special Features:
In 1996, Headmaster Bill Lowman, Dean of the Arts Nelms
McKelvain and Violist Scott Lee organized the first ISOMATA/Idyllwild
Arts Academy Alumni Concert. Since then, 32 music alumni, coming back
from 18 different colleges, universities and conservatories have participated
in this annual event. Among them, many are already members of symphony
orchestras, representative by professional management, teachers at schools,
colleges and universities. The goal of the Alumni Concert is to bring
back the memories of studying and working in Idyllwild, and also show
the progress of the individual music graduate.
This non-profit concert is a genuine opportunity to share the wonderful
music in Idyllwild where each student grew up. The musicians often give
up other engagements and pull themselves out from busy schedules to meet
in Idyllwild in the beginning of the week. With three or four days of
intense rehearsals they will present a full program of chamber music.
As the participants of the 8th Alumni Concert, Hang Su – Viola,
Jackie Lee - Viola, Scott Lee – Viola,
Vesslin Gellev - Violin, Yao Zhao - Cello,
Vivian Fan - Piano, and Yiming Gao – Violin
The alumni will perform the Sonata for Two Violins in
C Major, Op. 56 by Sergei Prokofiev, Trio for Piano and Strings
No. 1 in d minor, Op. 32 by Anton Arensky and Johannes Brahms’
Quintet for Strings No. 1 in F Major, Op. 88.
Barry Hou of Marquis Violins in Pasadena provides violins
for this performance.
The concert will be held in Stephens Recital Hall on the campus of Idyllwild
Arts on Thursday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is free, open
