The Moving Pictures department of Idyllwild Arts Academy holds
it’s 3rd Annual Screening of Student Films on Friday, May 28
at 7:30 pm in the Idyllwild Arts Foundation Theatre and Saturday, May
29 at 7:30 pm in the Rustic Theatre in Idyllwild.
Moving Pictures, one of seven majors
at Idyllwild Arts Academy, teaches young filmmakers all aspects of filmmaking
– screenwriting, storyboarding, cinematography, lighting, acting and directing
among the many required disciplines.
The students produce their film from the first day of school working
with their instructors to craft the story.
Ultimately the young filmmakers audition fellow students to play
roles, may enlist a student composer to write an original scores and even
have Idyllwild Arts music majors perform them for the soundtrack.
The student films will be entered
in the “André Sobel Scholarship” and the “André Sobel Film Awards” competition.
André Sobel was a remarkable young man whose natural dignity, unconventional
sense of humor and promising future ended just one year after being diagnosed
with a brain tumor. He was 17. In honor of André, who was accepted
at NYU for film, and in support of young filmmakers in the Moving Pictures
Department at Idyllwild Arts Academy, the André Sobel River of Life Foundation
has made a generous grant to create the André Sobel Scholarship Film Awards
to help Idyllwild Arts students as they proceed with their lives in a
way that was not possible for André. Designed to recognize excellence in filmmaking and student
overall contribution to the school, André Sobel Film Awards are given
in four categories: Best Film by a Senior Most Promising Undergraduate Filmmaker Best Cinematography Best Sound Design Films will be judged by the Moving
Pictures faculty and a jury of film industry professionals and will be
presented at the Awards Assembly on Thursday, June 3. The Friday, May 28 at 7:30 pm screening will be held in the
Idyllwild Arts Foundation Theatre on the campus of Idyllwild Arts, 52500
